Safety and Intended Use
A pleasant moment is enough. No one needs to remember a name, get an answer right or finish a game.
What the app and website offer
Golden Moments offers picture matching and other activities to look at and talk about together. Families and caregivers may share them with an older adult, including someone living with dementia or Alzheimer’s disease, if that person enjoys them. People can also enjoy the pictures on their own.
The purpose is enjoyment, familiarity and time together, not a score or a clinical outcome.
What they are not designed to do
Golden Moments does not diagnose, screen for, assess, monitor, treat, slow or prevent dementia, Alzheimer’s disease or any other illness. It does not give therapy, medical guidance, medication advice, emergency help or a care plan. Describing it as recreational is not a regulatory clearance or classification.
How quickly someone finds a match, or whether they recognize a picture, is not a measure of their intelligence, capacity, health or disease stage. Do not use game activity to make health or care decisions.
Keep it voluntary
Ask if the person would like to look at pictures. Keep it simple and offer choices. Let them enjoy a picture without needing its name or the year. If a story comes naturally, listen. If not, quiet company counts too.
Stop, take a break, or change activities if someone becomes tired, uncomfortable, confused, upset or uninterested. A familiar picture can bring back an unhappy memory, so never insist on it. Give the everyday supervision and support the person needs; the app does not replace it.
Comfort and accessibility
Use a comfortable screen brightness and a position that makes pictures easy to see, along with the device’s accessibility settings. There is no need to make a game harder or time it. If sounds bother someone, keep sound off.
Read how we design the website on our accessibility page. Device compatibility for the app is listed in the App Store and Google Play.
Family photos and consent
Choose only photos you may use and show. Take special care with photos of children or of anyone who cannot easily say what they want. Do not share another person’s diagnosis or other private details as part of an activity.
Original photos, the app’s copies and device backups are different things. Read thedeletion steps and the app privacy policy before adding family photos.
Medical care and emergencies
If you are worried about someone’s memory, behavior, safety or health, talk with a doctor or other qualified professional. Golden Moments cannot advise on one person’s condition or care. If someone is in danger or has a medical emergency, call 911 or your local emergency number. Do not rely on the app for urgent help. Our health information notice lists helplines.
Report a concern
If you find an upsetting picture, misleading wording, an accessibility barrier or a safety issue, emailweb@dementiaactivities.games. Describe the screen or feature. Please leave out health details and family photos unless they are truly needed.
