Accessibility
We design for older eyes and hands first, and aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA, with stronger contrast where we can.
What we do
- Text is at least 16 pixels and reading text is 20 pixels by default, and it grows with your browser’s text size and zoom.
- Buttons and picture tiles are large, with targets of at least 48 by 48 pixels.
- Dark ink on warm paper colors, with high contrast. Color is never the only signal: selected and matched pictures also get a thick border, a check mark and spoken labels.
- No timers anywhere, and nothing changes or disappears on its own.
- Every game can be played with taps alone: no dragging, swiping or double-tapping.
- Games work with a keyboard and announce what happens to screen readers.
- Motion is minimal and respects your device’s “reduce motion” setting. Sound is off by default and never needed.
- Printable activities use large type and simple layouts.
Known limits
- Photos you choose in Photo pairs are announced by number (“Photo 1”), not described.
- Coloring pages are easiest with a mouse or touch, though every area can also be reached with the keyboard.
We have not yet completed a formal audit with assistive technology users. If something is hard to use, please tell us at web@dementiaactivities.games and we will work on it.
